While most bars and restaurants are happy to welcome tourists into their establishments, there are some rotten apples that will do anything to take your money.
Many people I’ve been reading a lot about how Riga, especially the Old Town, is full of rip-offs and scams, where tourists are prayed upon and end up losing a lot of money in dodgy clubs and bars.
There are a couple of clubs on Kalku Iela going towards the Freedom monument which lure gullible or inebriated, testosterone-charged men inside, You’ll be shocked to discover later that the barely palatable bottle of wine you bought them costs €500 or more. Charging an extortionate figure for drinks and have some “heavies” surround the door to make sure you pay before you leave or kindly provide you with an escort to the nearest ATM…but, If you refuse the bouncers will pummel you until you give them your PIN code.
So if you’re approached by an attractive lady or two on the street who strike up a conversation with you and then suggest a drink in said establishment, don’t say you haven’t been warned…so, avoid “Karaoke Klubs” and “ Atspulgs “ are located near the main entrance to the city centre from the monument. The owners are scam artists.
The scams Riga is infamous for are quite obvious and easy to avoid. Just don’t go drinking with over-friendly girls who take you to a bar of their friends or in their opinion best bar in Riga. Want to check them, here is the lifehack, offer them to go with you into the bar you already been and enjoyed. They skip and say they dont like it and their place is the best one – 100% scam.
Many people ask us…if, its so many places in Riga is rip-off, how do we find really nice company of girls, who will come partying with us? Well, good question and pretty easy answer. First, try to stick to the girls, who is also making a hen party in Riga. There is a lot of local hen parties in town, but, sometimes hard to spot them anywhere.
Second, try seek the girls, which is not paying attention to you and are not looking for a new victim by their eyes. And in the end, you can order our party service at our stag company, and then, your safety and good fun will be guaranteed.
Avoid seedy bars and try to always pay in cash at bars and nightclubs, even if they seem reputable.
As for strip clubs and bars, not everything is as bad as it seems. But the Blow party cabaret club is best avoided.
As for the others, they are more reliable and the quality of service is higher, but do not forget to remain cautious and pay cash as much as possible, and always be interested in how much it costs and you will be in perfect order.
